
Guelaguetza is a Zapotec word that means “a commitment of sharing and cooperation.” Guelaguetza is a celebration that honors the gods for sufficient rainfall and a bountiful harvest.
This event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Senderos, which provides free dance, music classes, educational support programs and scholarships for Latino youth.
Gates and booths open at 9:00am. Cultural dance and music program is from 10:00am-4:00pm. Procession of musicians and dancers around the field will begin at 11:00am. There will be a marketplace featuring Oaxacan food and craft vendors The festivities end at 5:00pm.
Admission is $10.00 per person, and children under 5 years are free.
The festival is located at San Lorenzo Park on a field with lots of trees for shade. There will be a designated area for people who want to bring blankets and low chairs. No large canopies or tents are allowed.
Senderos will have a booth that is selling hats, rebozos, CIS #8 CD’s, water, chips, cookies. Please stop by to learn more about Senderos and support our programs!
