Natural Bridges

New Update:  January 23, 2015:

At the December 10, 2014 Board Meeting, during a discussion of the 1st Interim Budget Report for 2014-15 dated October 31, 2014, the Board of Education was presented a multi-year budget.  At that time, due to budget projections/concerns, the Board determined that the opening of Natural Bridges needed to be postponed indefinitely.  The Board will continue to monitor elementary enrollments and provide supports at our current campuses.

This page contains public information intended to keep stakeholders informed about the decision making process that is followed regarding the re-opening of the Natural Bridges School campus.

On March 27, 2013, the Santa Cruz City Schools Board of Education voted 7-0 to approve recommendations from a district ad-hoc facilities committee to re-open the Natural Bridges campus as a fifth elementary site in the 2015-16 school year.  On November 21, 2013, staff and trustees began gathering input from staff and parent community members regarding ideas and options for the re-opening of this site.  These "Listening Tour Meeting" notes are posted below for your viewing.

On January 15, 2014, the Board approved the composition of the District Advisory Committee to begin the work of making a recommendation to the Board Members regarding the re-opening of the site.

The first meeting of the District Natural Bridges Advisory Committee took place on February 3, 2014, 6:30 pm, Mission Hill Middle School Community Room, 425 King Street, Santa Cruz, CA.

A second working meeting of the committee will take place on February 24th.  While this meeting is open to the public, it is a working meeting and is not designed for public input.

The next meeting designed to solicit public input will take place on March 3, 2014 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at 3 locations: Mission Hill Middle School; Branciforte Middle School; the Beach Flats Community Center.

The working committee and other stakeholders will explore the options for the re-opening of the Natural Bridges school campus in Fall 2015 for the purpose of advising the Santa Cruz City Schools Board of Trustees.
